Camlough weaved its magic again to provide athletes with a glorious evening for the first of the Camlough mini tri series organised by Newry triathlon club. A 750 swim followed by a 10k cycle and a 3k run over the Camlough main triathlon course was a great success with everyone greatly enjoying the novel distances.
We had 5 athletes taking part and all bar Niall Carroll had reason to be happy. Not that Niall had a bad race but a nasty fall of the bike left him badly gashed on his arms legs and back and even ripped his trisuit in the bum region.
Brian Cafferty was first out of the water for Setanta followed by Paul Whately then Niall Mc Cabe ,Linda Meehan and Niall Carroll. Niall McCabe had a strong bike taking him well up the field to sixth position, Cafferty was second out of transition after the bike but with the run to come he was never going to stay there. In fact he should probably stayed in transition. Niall Carroll manfully continued despite being in obvious pain, however every cloud has a silver lining and Linda Meehan tucked in behind Niall the Hole (not a spelling mistake, please refer to earlier and the rip in Nialls trisuit)way home even seeming reluctant to overtake him.Paul Whately finished strongly to finish 9th with a remarkably consistent 9th fastest swim, 9th fastest bike and 10th fastest run.
Many thanks to the Newry club for arranging this event, the next one is on Wed 25th July and everyone is welcome .Registration starts at 6.45 and the race at 7.30.
