On Monday March 8th we will be kicking off our Underage Cycling Programme in Mountpleaseant AC Hall at 7pm. The first night will be an information evening for Children and there parents.
The underage program is now ready and will run for a 10 week program to children between the ages of 10 and 14.
Preparation included
- Amending the club constitution to adopt the Irish Sports Council Code of Ethics and Good
- Practice in Children's Sport.Club Members attending special training for dealing with children provided by Louth Sports Partnership.
- Appointing Male and Female Children's officers.
The Program will
- Run the programme one evening every week 7 - 8pm ; Initially for 10 weeks
- Coach the children in Bike Handling Skills, Road Safety, Bicycle Mechanics and Group Riding Skills.
- The programme will be use a combination of indoor and outdoor facilities according to the weather and light
- Weather permitting and upon reaching a level of competency we will take groups for spins on the road, on a circuit comprised of cycle lanes and hard shoulders.
- The course will be geared primarily towards 10 - 14 year olds (at a later stage we may consider developing a programme for younger children)
The above programme will only succeed if it gets volunteers and support from club members and parents.
